Art Exhibition by Mike McLean at The Sands Torquay
If you've spent any time on the Surf Coast, chances are you've already encountered Mike McLean's work. His hand-crafted Willy Wagtails have become a beloved fixture outside homes across Torquay and beyond, spreading to over 30 countries worldwide. But there's much more to this Torquay artist than his signature birds.
Mike is a painter, a teacher, and a storyteller through art. His canvas portraits and broader works carry the same warmth and human connection that have made his wagtails so universally loved. Each piece reflects a practice built over years of dedication, community, and a genuine love for the creative process.
Throughout May and June, a collection of Mike's paintings and artwork is on display in the main hallway here at The Sands. We invite you to slow down, take a wander through, and experience his work up close. Several pieces are available for purchase, making it a wonderful opportunity to bring home something truly local and meaningful.
