Q&A
Tell us a bit about yourself, your background and your experience – where have you been working previously?
Resort Hospitality professional with 25 years in the industry. Having worked from the grassroots up to where I am today. My path has led me to have great exposure across the food and beverage and rooms division; it has also let me work in some of the best locations in and out of Australia.
What excited you about working at the Torquay Sands Resort?
The Sands Torquay is such a great property, located in the picturesque Torquay. I’m excited to be here leading up the team at the property to provide superior service., plus if I do get some spare time, my swing needs a little improvement.
What are you most looking forward to about being in Torquay?
My career has led me to be quite transient for many years. I’m looking forward to being part of a community on an ongoing basis in this beautiful coastal location.
What is your favourite cuisine?
My all-time favourite cuisine is from a variety of Asian Cultures, including Thai, Vietnamese, Malaysia and India. Always great to get a really good Tom Yam or Spicy Laksa.
Torquay is renowned for its surfing culture and beautiful beaches - are you a keen surfer?
Unfortunately, not, but I am very eager to get out exploring on long beach walks. Usual on time out I like to get out for a motorcycle ride, so the Great Ocean Road is on my list of must do’s.
What do you love most about the region/ or what are you looking forward to exploring?
Torquay and Bells Beach are iconic for Australia. It’s really one of the most beautiful coastlines in the country. I for one, can’t wait to soak in the natural surroundings and trek some of all the many nature walks.
What do you love most about working in the tourism industry?
For me being able to create memorable guest experiences is key to success in tourism. A vacation might only be for a few days or a week, but memories can last a lifetime.
Favourite travel destination?
As I’ve travelled extensively, I have many destinations that I have really enjoyed travelling to. Italy was a highlight for me in Europe and Sri Lanka for an Asian destination where you can really explore and experience the culture. Now that I’m back in Australia getting to see some more of this great land will be a must for me.
