Beaches & SurfingLocated 22 kilometres south of the city of Geelong, Torquay is known as the Surf Capital of Australia, with many of the town's businesses and attractions related to the surfing industry. At Surf City Plaza is the Surfworld Museum as well as several major local manufacturers of surf equipment and clothing. As a historical seaside resort, Torquay's beaches have been modelled on those of England, featuring wide grassy foreshores and large shady trees lining the coast. There are many walking tracks and scenic views along the several beaches in the area as well as from rocky points in the coastline including Yellow Bluff and Point Danger. A few kilometres south-west of Torquay is Bells Beach which hosts the Rip Curl Pro Surfing Classic - an annual event helod in April which attracts competitors from all over the world. |

CyclingBicycling is popular in this area. There are four rides that take in the town's attractions, nearby Bells Beach and outlying areas. They range from easy to moderate, up to 16km and take up to two hours to complete, depending on how many stops you make. You can also take an easy ride around the foreshore. |
